I'm got a new job, and after 5 (or so) months of unemployment I'm REALLY fucking happy to be working.
I can't give away too much about the job, but that is because I'll be working for a company who is contracted with the Australian Defence Force. And yes that means I'll be working on a base. I'm saying no more on the actual position, the role, or where I'll be working largely because of reasons that shouldn't be that hard to work out.
As I said, I'm really happy to be getting this job since the last five months haven't been all that fun with my sole income that little thing known as THE DOLE! Now it does help (and I would have liked getting that $900 Mr Rudd...), but working is something I want to do a lot more. Besides, there is only so much Doctor Phil a man can take.
Now there is some fun events that lead to me getting this job, and hey I hope no one has an issue in me telling them (more so for those out there who are not working right now, keep the faith).
Short version is I saw a job with this mob in an email alert I was sent from Seek about two months ago. After a few weeks they got in contact with me for an interview. It took a few weeks before I would discover that head officer felt it was best to fill the role via other means. No job this time, but this did create a new area where I could be employed.
Now it gets interesting.
Once more I faced the firing squad that is another job interview, once more I had to wait before head office would make the call so I would get it. In the end I was informed I didn't get it (was close), but they would get in contact if something came up.
But wait, there's more!
About two weeks ago (at most a few days after finding out I didn't get the other position) I got a call out of the blue. Something else had come up, and they wanted me for the role...just after I did the medical. You should be able to make a guess how happy I was to hear this offer, and hey what issue could come up with the medical. I'll cut the few days it took to work out when the medical needed to be done and will cut straight to the day of the medical.
The day itself started off well (if a little overcast), but hey it is a chance for me to drive my car. Start out, everything going well until it starts to rain...and boy did it rain (gave the car a nice wash). Throw in heavy traffic, a large amount of roadworks pretty much everywhere, plus the fact it took me 1/2 an hour to find parking and you can guess my state of mind. Thankfully I was able to get to the medical...late, but got there. Everything was good here...well besides my high blood pressure for some odd reason...
BUT WAIT! There is STILL more!
After waiting a week for news on the job I gave the boss a call. He informed me that he had no word yet on what had happened since head office hadn't told him yet. As to why they hadn't told him yet, well he hasn't given them a call yet about this. On why he hadn't given them a call, well they hadn't sent him the inform he needs to make the call...and you should be able to work out the rest of that loop (thank you an ever growing, always expanding bureaucracy). The funny part is that not long after making the call was I informed that I had the job.
One fist pump & happy dance later I tried to work out the best way to pass a note on about the job. Here it is for now.
So in short, I have a job and one HELL of a drinking story to go with it. Hope everyone else either is having good luck/news/whatever, or has good luck coming their way sooner then later. Yes, even you always depressed, often made fun of emo boy (you know who you are).
Also, points for anyone who gets the title.
*None of this may or may not be 100% what happened. Well, other then me getting the job and with whom. That part is VERY real.
